MDF cut list calculator

MDF has no face grain. Parts can rotate, which usually packs tighter than plywood with grain locked.

Parts

No grain restriction

Rotation is on. That is the useful difference from the plywood calculator: the nest can turn a 400 × 800 side if it fills a leftover better.

Edges

MDF edges need sealing or lipping if they will show. The optimiser does not add lipping strips — add them as extra parts if you cut them from the same sheet.

Worked example

Four tall 400 × 800 sides, two 1200 × 100 plinths and eight 80 × 400 packers. Rotation on, 3 mm kerf.

Questions

Is MDF the same as particle board?

No. Particle board (chipboard) is coarser and common for kitchen carcasses. Use the particle-board calculator if that is your stock.
