Kerf is the width the blade removes. Multiply by the number of cuts to see lost length.

Finished length

If you rip four 200 mm strips from 1220 mm, you make three (or more) kerfs depending on how you cut. This page uses the cut count you enter — it does not guess your saw sequence.

On a full nest

Every internal cut in CutPilot uses the same kerf. That is why a plan can need more sheets than area maths.

Worked example

3 mm kerf and 5 cuts remove 15 mm. A 1220 mm rip yields 1205 mm of finished width in total, not 1220.

Questions

What kerf should I use?

Measure a test cut. 3 mm is a typical UK circular-saw blade. Thin-kerf blades are closer to 2 mm. US pages default to 0.125 in.
